Casey Jones

For majority of us as children, aspirations and ideas of what we wanted to be when we grew up, changed constantly depending on what was 'cool' at the time or which fad was in. In my case, one day it was a ballerina, the next it was an actor, the following week was a vet and then a nurse and I have no doubt that a lot of people reading this, were just as indecisive until the end of high school approached and we were perhaps thrown in to making that final choice of what course to enrol in at university or which job seemed personally appropriate to our life styles.
But for Windaroo local, Casey Jones, the path seemed quite clear from a very young age and according to him, there was simply only one thing that he was destined to do. So when he first uttered the words, "when I grow up, I want to be a rock star", very few people knew that he was already "rockin' and rollin'" down the path of becoming a talented musician. His band has received attention, even as far as internationally after debuting only a few months ago and after posting online, has hit over one million views on YouTube alone, excluding Twitter, Facebook and other social networks. Here, in his own words, Casey reflects upon his childhood dream, playing the role of lead guitarist in Gold Coast based band, De La Cruz and how the future looks for an aspiring musical icon.

"I first started playing guitar at eight and after a week, gave up because I hated playing Polly Wolly Doodle over and over. So I didn't pick up music again for years until I "had a go" at the drums, when I was ten and played for five years until I was struck down with an illness and suffered chronic fatigue for months, so was too weak to drum majority of the time. But I didn't want to give up on music completely so began guitar again and from that moment on, I loved it and it's been my passion ever since.
I played throughout highschool, and at eighteen received an email from Kramer Guitars USA, to do some work in promoting their brand. I worked on a few clips and videos for them and then weeks later, they requested that I endorse their products and I'm a massive fan of their guitars so of course, I said yes! To be endorsed by the same company as some of the greats, Sammy Hagar, George Lynch, Eddie Van Halen and Gene Simmons (to name a few), is such an honour and somewhere I always wished I would be a part of.
As for the band, back in 2007 a few of us began talking and after searching, managed to attract all the extra elements we needed to create our vision. When it comes down to it, we're just a few crazy guys with big hair and the same awesome idea but it seems to work and we love it! We've only officially been together for a total of four months but already have numerous shows booked as far as eighteen months in advance and have been booked to do a national and international tour with the Miss Ink Australia competition, over here and New Zealand in 2012.
I know it's cliche, but when I have my guitar and am on stage, I feel invincible. Nothing at that time could possibly affect me."

De La Cruz will be playing at the Jubilee Hotel, Brisbane on the 2nd September.

Changes at the Stockyard

"We just take it one day at a time and tackle any obstacles as they come and of course - there will be obstacles," Head Chef and Owner of Windaroo's Stockyard Bar 'n' Grill, Andrew Kearney explains with confidence. Having very recently taken over management of the "local family restaurant", along with wife Kerrie and the recent addition of their new baby, he admits that running the bistro has been as wonderfully challenging as expected. "This is definitely far greater than I thought it would be and much more challenging, which makes it even more worthwhile," He adds, after recounting stories of cooking on multi-million dollar yachts in the Mediterranean and being flown all over the country to work for various companies, majority by recommendation.

The Stockyard Bar and Grill situated next to windaroo Lakes acclaimed 18 hole Golf Course, aims at being an affordable and comfortable restaurant, dedicated to creating a casual, family friendly atmosphere.  "We want our customers to simply enjoy themselves in a comfortable environment, whilst eating great quality meals at reasonable prices.  "We've recently created a brand new menu and some fantastic nightly specials" Andrew adds. Along with the new delicious menu, guests can still enjoy Thursday night Trivia night, Friday night Live entertainment and come along for Family night on Saturday night where kids can eat for free if dining with an Adult. If you are planning a special occassion, Stockyard Bar and Grill has two function rooms available perfect for receptions, parties and business meetings and Andrew assures that he or one of his friendly staff will be more then happy to help you plan your special event.  Future plans include possible events like comedy nights and Sunday sessions with local bands but Andrew says he is always open to new ideas and opportunities.

However above all of that, what struck as the most appealing trait about the Stockyard Bar 'n' Grill wasn't its great prices, but was the fact that it is one of the very few bars and restaurants in Queensland without poker machines or better known as "The Pokies", upon a majority vote.
"We're very set on the venue being family-orientated and believe that putting Pokies in place, may encourage opportunity for negative behaviour towards children and that it would shift away from the image we're trying to create for ourselves. Those machines bring in a lot of money for many places and we understand that because of our strict decision, we may not be as financially powerful as others but we're not going back on that - we're not bending."
"We're all about family and local support. That's the way it will stay for us."

The Stockyard Bar 'n' Grill is located on Anna-Louise Tce in Windaroo, next to the Windaroo Lakes Golf Course and is open      10.00 am to 10.00 Pm Tuesday to Saturday and 10.00am to 3.00 Pm Sunday and Mondays. Meals are reasonably priced           and range up to $30.00 . Bookings Essential Phone : 3804 0633 .
